Quick question -
I've got a '96 Z24 with the 2.4l LD9 engine,
My motor & trans is moving waay too much on acceleration & engine braking, in the same axis as the crankshaft is spinning ... is the motor-mount on the left side (looking at the motor from the front of the car) the only mount that is supposed to soften this movement? ie, is this always the culprit in these situations?
I thought I'd post this in case this is a common thing in these, and you all have seen this before.
Thanks so much!
Dave
Yes its a common issue with all Cavaliers, The motor can shake pretty bad, I though @ first my motor mount was broken. Until GM tech told me they are made like that, Also noted you will know when u have a broken mount u can feel it thud, When the car is put into gear. We have other options, TTR poly mount that work awsome, Also there is RK sport poly insert. Just to let you know will have some viberations with youre car with poly, Cause the stocker rubber mounts absorb the vibes, Poly doesn't. Check out www.TurboTechRacing.com. They are awsome for aftermarket parts.
Good Luck
Thanks for the reply Rich,
Mine is so bad that it does in fact make some clunking noises. And, I can even feel the shifter being pulled when I let my foot off the gas going down the road. Things are definitely moving more than they should.
The weird thing is it doesn't obviously look bad, but looks can be deceiving. I suppose 13 years & 163k can have it's toll.
I am pretty sure youre mounts are the cause of those issues.
i picked up some new mounts and inserts from Karo, and it stiffened the whole thing up pretty good. i had my motor balanced and blueprinted so no vibs for me, but id look into them, feels like you get a lot more power down too, instead of your mounts soaking it up during shifts.

It was definitely the upper mount.
Took it off, and not only was it squashed to about a half-inch shorter than the new one I put in, but the two bolts on the underside of the replaceable piece were completely gone, as well as whatever they thread into inside of it.
Put the new one in, what a difference. I wonder how long the previous owner was driving this poor car like that.
