I'm having issues with my DD. Its a '96 2.2 and when I drive it wants to stall out at Idle and when I drive it from a complete stop it wants to hesitate and backfire before I hit about 30-35mph and it also takes a while for it to reach that speed (even when I have the pedal to the floor). I have been scanning the codes for a few days now and when I first scanned it the only codes that popped up was my emission code, multiple misfire code, and O2 sensor code. So I changed the plugs and that seemed to fix all my codes except for the emissions codes of course. I drove it like that for a couple days and it was still driving like was before, so I scanned the codes again and this time all the same codes from before popped back up as well as a new code and that one was the EGR pintle positon code. So next I changed the EGR valve and that fixed my all my codes except for the emissions code, but it was still driving funny like before. So I scanned the codes and the only codes that were listed was my emissions and multiple misfire code. I was talking with my co-workers and they seem to think it was my TPS sensor, so I just changed that today and while I changed it I also disconnected the battery that way the computer would reset itself and I drove it again and my problem is still there and my check engine light came back on of course. I haven't scanned it yet, so I'm unsure on what codes are there. Also keep in mind that when I reach 30-35mph my car runs normal like its supposed to. I also checked my wires and they are still good. Also when I drive around town I have to drive 2 footed when I go to stop signs or when I'm going in reverse it will wanna stall out.
Could it be my coil packs? What could be causing my issue?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

How did the old plugs look?
i have a 97 2.2L 3 speed thats doing the EXACT same thing to me, ive been on the board trying to find answers so im interested to see what replys you get
I think I figured out the problem, My issue seemed to be my wires cause I changed them and all of my codes are completely gone now, I've been driving for a couple days and the check engine light hasn't came back on.

bad wires will do that... usualy if they are stiff any hold form, they need changed.
