O2 Sensor cheater?

Okay so the CAT has been hollowed out in my 03' sunfire. Well it hollowed itself out.... not sure why, never seen it happen before. So I figured I'd clean out the rest of the debris in the cat and run it straight. Sounds good, not much louder and fuel milage increased. So of course my issue now is that the CEL is on, of course giving me the cat efficiency code. I can deal with the light bein on but I'm trying to sell the car and people looking at the car are to weary of the light. So is there a way to get around this and make the light go out other than replacing the cat.?

just put an aftermarket cat on it. you can get them for like $50.

I was kind of thinking of doing that. But was just concerned that it would still throw a code from the downstream O2.

if it does, just do the mechanical o2 simulator.

it just tricks the o2 sensor to thinking less emmissions are going threw the cat. i saw it on a honda forum one time very nice trick if you ask me. the o2 sensor is further away from the pipe

Its been working on mine for a few weeks now, I haven't thrown a code for the cat, but I did throw one for a misfire at the track the other day, That issue got taken care of and the Mechanical sim works fine on my car.

Okay so I put in the simulator and the light is still on. am I going to need to clear the code? it should be a soft code and go out when the problem is fixed shouldn't it?

soft codes died with the implementation of OBD-II. it needs to see a certain drive cycle before the circuit is even tested, and it may take 5 tests before it decides the problem is fixed. this is why you ALWAYS disconnect the battery during a repair.

The foulers that just space the sensor out further.
