Question regarding a 2004 Cavalier, 47,000 original miles.
Went to start up car today, wouldn't start. Waited a few minutes, started but shook and stuttered. Turned if off and back on, it was fine. Drove it and at 65 mph,. it stutterred, like it was starving for fuel. Stuttering increased so that it would only drive in second or third gear up to about 35 mph.
Went to start it again, sounds fine.
Possible causes?
Bad fuel? I doubt it
Fuel pump? Usually the work or don't work, and when they fail, they won't come back to life. I
Fuel filter? Where's it located to check?
Catalytic converter, robbing engine power and forcing stall?
Anybody had a similar experience and can offer a solution? Thank you.
I think you might be on to something with the fuel filter, and you may be right about the fuel pump mine just died...turned the car off went into the store came out dead no startie. Anyway the fuel filter is located at the rear underside of the car just behind/above the spare tire molding, near the evap canister. Cheap, easy R and R. Cant go wrong.
Maybe you should check the ICM. sounds like the low rpm spark is bad
Changed fuel filter, no fix.
Looked at fuel pump screen, no blockage.
Replaced fuel pump-problem fixed. !!!
