Hello,
I am using Mobile 1 Fully-Synthetic oil on my 2003 Chevy cavalier. Currently the mileage is at 104K, there are no oil leaks I looked for them on the floor of my garage and there is no sign of oil. The problem is that the oil level is dropping, for example I did an oil change back in September and when I checked the dip stick today it read half level. I do not allow it to drop to a point where the warning light comes on but I am very concerned and do not understand where the oil is disappearing to. Can someone help me to determine what is going on?
This is a normal issue with the Ecotec,Especally if you are up in the higer RPM range..GM I belive tells you 1/2 liter Between oil changes is normal..I just check mine at every gas fill up just because its easy,And every now and then have to add a bit,I also use Mobil1 in my car..
Hey Jason,
Thanks for the response, I am glad that this is normal
Also, it is common for first-time users of Mobil 1 to experience excessive oil consumption
during the first (and sometimes 2nd) oil change.
I've never heard what the explanation is for this. But, I do know that it causes the owners
to start looking for loose oil filters and other causes for leaks. So, after the engines get
"re-settled" with Mobil 1 the mysterious oil losses didappear.
Hello Leland,
I can relate to that, I really could not understand where the oil was going. I looked on the floor of my garage and there was nothing, it was frightening because if you see oil on the floor you know there is a faulty gasket or something but no oil on the floor makes you wonder, what the heck is the problem! I am glad though that this is normal thanks.
Try mobil 1 0w-40. Mobil 1 5w-30 is kind of on the thin side of a 30w oil.
Just to be on the safe side - i would check in the air intake, I had the same problem (only worse) and have about a half a quart in my intake... just check and make sure so you save yourself the hassle of finding out all of your oil is being forced into the intake - and not lubricating the valve train.
