Car is 04 cav eco/auto. For about 8 months now Ive been getting a kinda clunk from the drivetrain when I first get on the gas from a stop or very low speed. It started as soon as I took my autotrans interceptor off. I had it on for about 2 years, set at about 4 1/2. I have had no slipping or poor shifting at all. Its been 100% except for the clunk.
So today I jacked up my car to check a possible bad front wheel bearing. Set the parking brake, put the car in neutral. No play in the bearing yet, though Im getting a hum in right hand turns. However, when I spun the wheel in either direction I got a kinda clunk, almost like a bad inner CV. but it sounded like it came more from the trans, under the center of the car.
Any ideas?

Dial indicator on the inner joint is the only way to know for sure, but more than likely if you put it in manual 1 or 2 and get on and let off throttle and you hear the clunk its likely the inner CV.s Motor and transmission mounts would be the only other thing.

Hmm, Ill have to try that. The upper motor mount is RK SPort, its got some miles but good. However the lower and trany mount are stock, so might be them as well.
Thanks for the ideas, and keep em coming.

Ronin, kinda like mine about 135,000 on mine same as yours 04 Cavy eco auto. I used to have the kinda clunk your describing, almost like there was some slack in the driveline or something mine was more noticable when i went from park to drive there would be a slight hesitation before it actually went into the gear. More than likely a completely different scenario than the one your experiencing.

Actually you reminded me of a detail I forgot...I get the same clunk going from park to drive...just like you said, like theres some slack in something.

Sounds like a motor mount problem. CV's always make a popping noise from my experience.
