Starter wiring

I changed the motor in my 97 sunfire 2.4l with another 2.4l I bought from a guy with a 2000 cavalier. I noticed a bundle of wires in the engine bay in front of the transmission when we started to pull the old motor out. I didn't really think too much of it, til I was hooking up the new motor, and came to a point that I knew where the wire went but wasn't sure why.

Anyways I hooked everything up except the evap solenoid and the IAT. I figure this is a good point to start the engine before I get too far. I go to the ignition and turn it over nothing, its like the Park/Neutral Safety switch was no good. So I break out the Chilton manual and look at the starting system wiring diagram, and found that the wire should go to the park/neutral safety switch. So anyways it looks like it is supposed to be switched on only when the ignition is in the start position.

So here is the big question, where is this purple wire supposed to be hooked too? Right now it is hooked where I took it off of and that is to the under hood fuse box where the battery wire goes. This concerns me because this purple wire is supposed to control the Bendix which pushes the starter drive gear out to engage the flywheel and I think it is constantly engaged. Please help.

I also have an issue with the knock sensor being different from 97 to 2000. the 2000 motor has a 2 wire sensor that has a 4mm bolt(actual bolt thickness), and the 97 has a single wire with an 8mm bolt. how can I wire the 2000 2-wire sensor to work.?

Also, How would I go about getting the EGR turned off? I have the 97 computer and the 2000 motor is none EGR. can I get the VIN off of the motor and go to a chevy dealer and have my ECM reprogrammed? How much does that usually cost?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Tom

Hey, I'll try to help but it sounds like you got a mess

#1 a knock sensor should be a one wire sensor, I have never seen one with two wires. The knock sensor is simply a sensing device, and when viberaion is sensed, the ECM takes away timing.

#2 Dont know the ECM reflash but I dont think so, may have to get a 2000 computer

#3 The park/neutral switch circuit is closed when the vehicle is in P/N, so if you attempt to start the vehicle in D, it wont because power is passed through the park/neutral switch first.
Where is the wire connected to under the fuse box, what fuse, and what does that fuse control.

Do you power at the park/neutral switch, with the key on?

The starter should have two wires going to it, one from the battery, and is the other is for the solenoid
