i want to get my head rebuilt and piston rings and valve stems seals replaced how much would this run me at a mechanic shop?

Honestly, the best thing to do is call local shops. All different areas have all different prices - and all mechanics have different prices.

some people might pay 200$ when others may pay 700$...the only way to know is to call them directly.

the work you're talking about requires a full rebuild. why stop at piston rings, when you have to pull the crank anyway? just do the lower end bearings, full gasket set, new oil pump and screen, timing set and tensioners.. basically, what im getting at is that there's no good reason to do this half assed, when the engine is going to be completely disassembled anyway.
