Can someone tell me how much of an ordeal it might be to drop an oil pan on 2.2 sunfire to replace the gasket? I remember looking once and it looked like there was a crossmember in the way.

if its the ls2200 it shouldn't have anything in the way would be a oily mess but pretty simple

Most of them are easy to do, espiecally on FWD cars with a 4cyl engine.

Now a 2001 F250 powerstroke you can either remove the transmission and remove the engine mounts and raise ithe engine up slighty, or you can just pull the engine ( easier)

Or better yet Northstars, pull the trans out to do them.....dont want to @!#$ up that gasket cause its a bitch doing the job twice.

Nissan Muranos with AWD, you HAVE to remove the engine for the upper oil pan gasket, lower can be done easily with engine in car, thats only on AWD, rear wheel drive can be done in vehicle

I'm just rambing here, just glad I won a nice 4cyl car, easy to work on for the most part

Agreed there Rob, even though i don't work on my own car like a lot of people on here do i'll agree with what you said it looks pretty simple. Truth be told, even though i am not at all crazy about 4 bangers to begin with i must say this one has pretty well held it's own Have had some economy cars in the past that were just absolute dogs if you will.

If its anything at all like my 94 2.0 sunbird you can remove one side of the cross member that bolts to the frame 4 big bolts that have nutplates spot welded to the inside just spin them out. Makes way more room esp for removing the transmission for a clutch job.

It's not at all hard, messy it is, hard it isn't.

When you have the pan off take a good look at what is in the bottom of the oil pan before you clean it all out. Take note if it's silver or bronze colores. Are there any big chunks or just a very fine silt or nothing at all.

Just saying because this will tell you volumes about what shape your engine is in.
