I have an 04 Cavalier that seems to have a power steering issue. When I first start the car and begin to drive, things seem fine. After the car has warmed up a little the power steering becomes a bit stiff and makes a dull squealing sound. I checked fluid levels and they are ok. Any ideas?
Where does the sound seem to be coming from, does it do it in park, have someone sit in the vehicle and turn the wheel to try to ioslate the noise
These pumps dont fail often at all

The sound definitely seems to be coming from the steering assembly...if it is the pump, how hard/expensive is this to fix?
The steering assembly, so you mean the pump or the rack and pinion?
The pumps are pretty easy to do, driven by the camshaft, but these pumps dont fail often.....

Then what else could it be? It only does it after the car has been ran for a while and is warm. I can actually feel the steering stiffen up once it starts to make the squeeling sound. Seems like it could be a pump to me, but I'm no expert.
