My grandfather said it always did it, but my dad noticed and mentioned it the other day. My 97 2.2L OHV cavalier, when I stop at lights or whatever, a slight smell of exhaust permeates the interior. It's not very strong, but it is there. It often smells like that when I go out in the morning. I can't locate where the leak would be. Is this a normal cavalier thing, or is there something wrong?
something wrong. definetly is the tailpipe going out past the bumper? and does it have a flex pipe on the exhaust? i know mine broke and thats all i smelled.
Plug the exhaust mostly with a rag or if its cold, with your hand and have someone listen under the car, may be something as simple as a manifold gasket or something like the flex pipe previously mentioned.

I had a oil pressure sensor leaking which let oil drip onto the top of the engine ... when we stopped some of that oil would get on the exhaust causing an exhaust smell that got drawn into the car through the AC system. Changed out the $25 oil sensor and problem fixed.
Would this oil pressure sensor leak cause like, thin smoke, from the passenger side of the engine? It kind of looked like it was coming from the PS pump, but I figured it was just steam or EGR/PCV stuff.

yes, it would cause real thin smoke from that area.

I bet that's what it is then, because there is a thin smoke, and when I switch the A/C to recirculate, the smell goes away. Do you happen to have a part number, name, and maybe location/instructions on how to replace it?
