tensioner pulley on my 1997 2.4 sezied up today i can get a new assambly from the wreckers for $40 but it would be off of a 2000 2.4 does this make a difference or will it bolt right up
This, I will never understand. Why purchase a USED pulley, an item that you know wears out over time for $40 when you can purchase a NEW pulley from a reputable place such as NAPA auto parts for anywhere from $22 - $62 for the pulley and bearing?? Obviously the more expensive, the better. But even the cheapest one will most likely last longer than your used one.
Some items you should just purchase new. Anything with a bearing or a proven wear cycle. Yours wore out, doesn't it follow that the used one, which may be fine right now, will wear out in short order?
My 2 cents

i am buying a used one not for the bearing but for the assembly cause part of my bracket is broken as well i am replaceing the pulley it self with a new pulley what i need to know is if the bracket will bolt up

Call your local dealer and ask part # for 97 and part # for 00, if they are the same you are good to go, if not they wont work

for $20 more, you can get a NEW TENSIONER. there is no reason to get a used one.

went got the bracket off of the 2000 they are different part numbers but using a longer bolt and a belt from a 2000 it works no problems and for the record i did put a new pulley on it
But here is the thing. Usually what goes bad is the spring in the tensioner itself. Not the bearing. You will be cussing at yourself in 6 to 8 months (if that long) when the spring in the one you got from the bone yard goes bad after the renewed stress that is on back on it after sitting for who knows long in the yard.
okay like i said before os wasnt the tensioner i needed it was the bracket that bolts to the motor some how mine was broken i noticed it when my pulley went so i am now using a assembly off of a 2000 cavy with a new pully on it
