so my wife has an '03 cav and recently it has started beeping at her when she goes over 75mph...it stops when you drop below 70...it weird and irritating. Has anyone else had this happen?...any ideas what this might be? Thanks.
Where is the beeping sound from?
Is it the door chime beeping?
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
You sure she doesn't have a GPS and it's whats beeping? I know my buddies TomTom would yell at you for speeding. But you can turn that option off thankfully.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
Cars in Japan do that when going over a certain speed. I doubt her car was built there though. I would check the door(s) and e-brake sensors to see if any are faulty.

it sounds the same as the e brake chime....but when i pull the e brake up enough to set it off( a click or two) the chiming just goes twice as fast...so i think its something else, besides if it was the e brake it would chime over 5mph or something considerably lower.
the doors are deff closed.
There is a Garmin in the car but that's not it. no option for speed reminder...its been up to 120+ in my 'stang and didn't' make a sound...
Its only recently started doing this and its pretty aggravating.
Its to warn you that you are getting "close" to 88 MPH.
Dont call a Mustang a "Stang" it bake you sound like an idiot... (just saying)
as for the beeping..... they used to make these things where you could make the car do that over a certain speed..... it was intended to be done to your kids cars to annoy the crap out of them in an attempt to keep them from speeding... IDK how they worked but I know it existed.... it could be something like that also.
damn.....i was hoping it would make me sound cool...
she's owned the thing since new...there isn't anything like that on it.
^^^ ya figures I would mess that up LOL
spell check probably did that on me.
I cant believe that no one has told the OP the simplest way to fix this problem. Dont go over 75mph.
219whp - I <3 whine
lol. for some reason if i have my wipers on they wont shut off if i am speeding. i have to slow down to like 60 and they will shut off and then i can return to doing my usual 70 or so
thats weird...
...and thanks for the insight about staying under 75...
anyway...update...seem to have fixed it although i have no idea about the cause...
disconnected the battery to reset the ECU and it went away...3k+ miles and its not back...although it has an intermittent EVAP system problem now...oh well...its getting traded off in a couple months anyway...
