hey guys....
I have been on here the past few weeks posting about my noise and went to the timing area....
I replaced the chain, tensioner, guides....Still same noise. The old chain was a little worn, the tensioner was out on the old one more.
I still got the noise - my brother in law says it sounds lower end.
Pull the oil pan? Will I be able to see if its the bearings or something
What should I be looking for???? Whats the next step?
Any help is very much appreciated .
Yeah, it is hard to troubleshoot when you don't tell us what motor it is. I'll assume it is a 2.4L by the way you described it. What kind of noise is it making? Is it a knocking noise? If it sounds like bottom end, I can almost guarantee it is a rod bearing. You can pull the oil pan, look for metal shavings, and see if any of the rods are sloppy on the crank.

Yes, its the 2.4 liter.
Wll I be able replace them easy?
Is there a step by step way on here?
if it's a rod the engine could be about ready to throw a rod and go, in which case prepare for a new engine.
Dude... assuming you can reach the rods by removing the oil pan... if you can actually feel any play in them by hand... they are soo far gone It's amazing the car still runs (and it will be loud as hell).... you can have a rod bearing going out and still not be able to feel it by hand.
Replacing rods is not easy... you have to completely tear apart the engine (remove the head and oil pan along with some other stuff) and pull the pistons and rods out. You also really need to know what your doing to manage this also otherwise you'll end up putting something back together wrong.. theres a lot more to it than you think..
Make sure thats the problem first though.
You make it sound like in the majority of cases weebel, if it is a rod it would be easier to just replace the engine than try and replace a rod.
