no heat problem, need advice

Hi guys (and gals),

I'm new to this forum and I have a problem I just can't figure out. I've got an '84 pontiac sunbird wagon with 1.8L non turbo engine, and I just Can't get any heat out of her. Since this is my winter car, it's a real problem. A little history, Replaced the motor (rebuilt it in the process), water pump, and thermostat last year, new radiator this year due to a leak, and I lost my heat. Okay I think, its a 25 year old car, the heater core is plugged, no problem. Took me a couple of weeks to find one, installed it this past weekend along with another new thermostat, and no change. blower fan works fine, so do all the blend doors. heater core seemed to warm up just fine with the fan off, but as soon as it's turned up the air goes cold. I'm thinking that it's either air bound or there is a blockage in a line somewhere. what do you guys think? Any secrets to bleeding the coolant system?

thanks in advance,
todd.

Are both of your coolant hoses hot at the firewall.

Air pockets cause no heat/low heat problems. I'm assuming you bled the system out?

Rob,

Well I didn't check the hoses but rather the copper lines coming off of the core, and yes they were both hot, the intake being MUCH hotter than the return. the side of the core where the lines come in was warm, but the opposite end of the core was ice cold. Its a new core so I know its not plugged, gotta be an air pocket or flow problem, but I'm not sure how to proceed .

Oh, and I'm not sure if I bled the system correctly, any advice on that?

well it worked, got heat again! changed the suspect hose, installed an a/c delco thermostat and re-bled the system. not sure which one solved my problem, but hey i got heat! appreciate the help, thanx.
