Clutch Pedal on the floor after replacement
Monday, December 28, 2009 9:00 AM
I just replaced the clutch, pressure plate and slave cylinder in my friend's 2001 cavalier, 2.2 We got everything all back together and went to bleed the master cylinder only to find the clutch pedal just stays on the floor. If I pump it, it does not build any pressure. Should we replace the master cylinder as well? My fear is that my friend put the clutch plate in backwards but I'm not sure it would cause this problem. He said he didn't know there was a specific way the plate was supposed to face and put it in while I was at work. Any Answers??

thats kinda what happens, you have to fill the master, push the pedal, open bleeder, close bleeder, pull pedal off floor, repeat. yes, it is possible to put the clutch friction disk in backwards, and chances are it wont work it he did, no real way of telling before you try to drive it without taking it all apart again.

its normal, pull the pedal off the floor and contiueing bleeding the system till you have a firm normal feeling pedal

This is normal. Pump the pedal 3 times hold on floor, and bleed, close valve, pump 3 more times and repeat. It will build up.
