99 sunfire gt that we worked on a few weeks ago is having some problems
1. wont get above 30mph and wont shift, its an automatic 4speed
-I think the prob is speed sensor came out of the tranny because the speedometer is not working atm either
- Could it be tranny fluid not allowing the transmission to shift? we did a fliter and oil change filled the tranny up untill the fluid started to come out of the check plug.
2. Belt is making a very loud churping sound, its not to bad at idol but when you step on it the noise gets retarded loud
I was told the problem could be caused by the alt going out... not sure if i trust this persons opinion or not
3. Piston rings are shot, i don't plan to replace them because i am not qualified and i don't want to tear the block apart on a 2.4 its a bitch as most of you know, im just throwing this in here to mention that the engine they bought was from a junkyard in mexico that got imported into the US the buyer never heard or even saw the engine before giving it to us so i told him no warrentys on used parts that you didn't inspect before buying

Could be several things, did you recheck the fluid with it hot?
You think the problem is a speed sensor, because the speedometer isnt working, that sensor is called the vehicle speed sensor, could be a sensor, you would need a scan tool to see if that reading vehicle speed or not

Could be the belt, or any of the pullies, spray some PB blaster on the belt with it running, does the sound go away, if so your belt is junk, if not, one of your pullies is shot, remove belt spin each pulley by hand
