got a question, 04 eco sedan the weatherstripping that goes all the way around the frame of the drivers door is splitting around the doorjam, Now i have what seems like a pocket of air coming through the closed door as i drive down the road, is this possible, is it a real pain in the you know what to replace that can you just replace the one section or would it be easier to put duck tape over it.
Just a quick update, i went to the local hardware store and got what they said was professional quality Duck tape tried covering the area in question but it didn't muzzle the air pocket all that well. In fact being as the weatherstripping/molding around the door is rubber the tape didn't really stick all that great, then i got to thinking about it and realized our cars aren't really all that soundproof anyway. So i guess i'm just gonna have to live with it for the moment, the air pocket in question basically sounds like when the door is not shut all the way , you can still hear traffic and what not pass you by as you go down the road. Don't hear anything sitting at a light idling just when your movin down the road.
u could try gmpartsdirect.com or go to a local dealer and find out how much it would be to get new weatherstripping and just replace it the right way, tape won't help ya my friend.
Thanks Blucavvy, i was afraid that was what it was going to wind up coming down to was trying to avoid that but looks like that is probably going to be my only option at this point. Is that normal for the weatherstripping to start splitting like that in spots, particularly in the doorjam Area, also on the off chance it ever rains would something like that allow water to get in the car or would the split have to be up top closer to the top of the window.
any break in weatherstripping would allow it to leak i'd have to believe.
the weatherstripping around my rear windshield and back windows is starting to fade really badly, i gotta believe once it starts doing that cracking is right around the corner.
and yeah i think it is pretty normal, kinda like the eventual clear coat eating itself thing.
I know Oreillys sells a glue for weather striping that's really tacky and dries fast, might want to check into that.
