Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem here, yesterday I could not get the top on my 91' Sunbird to go back up!
When I push the switch, the only thing I hear is a click from the relay. However, if I push the 'down' side of the switch, the motor will run but ONLY in the 'down' direction.
Thankfully I haven't had to worry about rain...yet...so if anybody has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Not being a vert owner my only conclusion is the switch is bad possibly or the motor gears to up are worn.Could be the contacts on the switch and you may want to try and remove the switch and use a small piece of wire to jump the terminals on it to see if in fact that is the issue. Not to mention having a extra person to help pull the top as you jump the terminal or contacts on the switch it you can access them with out destroying the switch. If it is a seal switch u may be able to jump the switch assumming it has a two post for the up position and place the jumper between the plug that goes to the switch (do not plug the connector all the way in to the switch so you can touch the two post going to the switch for up) hope this makes sense.Being u can hear the relay means it works (good) and the motor works for the top at least down, but if the contacts for up are dirty or worn and not grounding would possibly cause this.Again I am not fluent with the issue just suggesting ideas .And I cannot find not one diagram in my electrical schematics for that switch (ughhhh)it shows everything but the vert top switch that is annoying at best to say.Hope this helps some how.
Got my hands on a wiring diagram and went over it w/ a friend. Given the symptoms and the schematics, We were able to determine that the up switch in the relay must have a bad contact in the relay. Hooked the top motor up to a 12v source and up she went!
Thanks for the reply!
