So as of the 31st, my car started to make a weird noise when I turned it on. First incident, I turned it and it made that loud scratchy noise that a car makes when it's already on and you turn the ignition in error. Car started though. Few hours later when I go turn it on again, it's dead. We charged it and it turned on ok. I tested it a few hours later again and it would make a weird clacking/ grinding noise and not turn on at all. Left it alone on Friday since I didn't need to go out.
Today I tried charging it again with the jumper cables and that wouldn't work. It makes a horribly loud cranking noise. My bf thinks it's the engine. I've experienced alternator and battery problems on that car a lot and I've NEVER heard a noise like that. I don't think it's the battery because my radio, lights, car alarm, and dashboard all work.
I'm thinking of having it towed tomorrow to a mechanic so they can determine what's wrong. I'm thinking if it's something that's going to be too costly, I might just get a new car. Too many little things are starting to act up and it's putting a nice hole in my pocket.
Now, have any of you experienced any of this and if so, what was wrong with it?
What kind of car? Year? What Motor?

i'd take the starter off and bring it in to a parts store to get tested. they will test it for free, and that would be my best guess as to what's wrong.

All stock...........lol.
Your starter is shot.
The starter is staying engaged and is not disengaging when it should.
New starter ( not Duralast garbage) and your problem is solved

Do you have an autostart? if so it may not be programmed or installed right, which could cause the bendix to be getting stuck or the starter motor to be engaged and the bendix not...so many different things that it could be.
