We r putting a 99 Z24 Cavi , together for our son , I am usually really good at getting things figured out but this ones got me puzzled.
Ok we got a 2.4L out of a 99 Alero and did the swap over, It turns over and fires then it dies right away and wont start again for about 2 minutes , I disconnect the battery and re attach it again restart it and it runs for about 2 seconds again, do I need to reprogram the computer , or any ideas would help me out a ton as I am trying to get this car done for my son before christmas . kinda sounds like you need to do the passlock relearn.
give this a read see if that works.

Also referred to as the Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) system, PASSlock is designed to prevent vehicle theft by disabling the fuel injectors unless the lock cylinder is engaged by the correct mechanical key. The theft deterrent system uses four components for theft prevention:
- the lock cylinder
- the ignition switch
- the instrument cluster (IPC, 96-99 models) or body control module (BCM, 00-05 models)
- the powertrain control module (PCM)
When starting the engine, the PCM waits for the fuel password from the IPC/BCM. If the password is not recognized or not present, the PCM disables the fuel injectors. The vehicle will either start and then quickly stall, or fail to start entirely. If one of the four components listed above is replaced, then the PASSlock system must be reprogrammed."

okay. so me and my dad tried the passlock relearn, no luck......we think we fried the started tho, so changing that out, anyone have any other idea?

oh yeah and we pulled the starter relay, pulled that out cuz its toast, and put another one in and still wont do nothing, you try to turn it over and the starter just sits there and clicks...

Did you replace the starter? What condition is the battery in?

not yet cuz of xmas, and the battery is in great shape, a friend of ours told us to disconnect the battery, computer, and everything that can still hold a charge, then wait 24 hrs and plug it all back in, and if that doesn't solve it then he said that he will come out and see if he cant get it.

heres a few things to check
fuel
spark
recheck all your electrical connections
check grounds

For the not turning and just clicking thing...... you made sure to put oil in the engine right?
not trying to insinuate anything.... but I've seen people do it.
And ya... check all your fuses and relays then go the fuel spark route once you get it to turn over again.
yeah we put oil in it lol
were going to tear more into it after new years and what not maybe then we cah figure out what the hell is wrong with it.

Still sounds like passlock issue to me. Is the theft light flashing?
