Removal of Airbags

Hey,

My car doesn't run, and my buddy just wreck his. Mine is a 2001 z24, and his is a 2002 sunfire with the eco. I want to give him my airbags, but I have a couple of questions. Will they work on his car, and how the hell do I get them out without blowing them off???

Thanks

I THINK the haynes manual covers removal/installation of airbags. They're pretty cheap and can come in handy.

I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you were very confident you knew what you were doing. Imagine how you would feel if the airbags could have saved your friends life in an accident, but they didn't go off... Although I think for insurance reasons, you are supposed to have the airbag system inspected after any work is done on it, could be wrong though (I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere...).

Also, if the bags in his car went off, then you have to replace the airbag module also. They only work one time. I think some of them can be reset, but I'm not sure on the ones for the Cavvy and Sunfire.

Just disconnect the battery and unplug them carefully. You will also have to give him the capacitor that is located under the carpet under the passenger side front seat. Once they are unplugged they won't fire. I replaced them twice in my first car, both times they worked without any problems.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
