Okay so i have an 86 Sunbird GT 1.8 Turbo 4speed stick anyways I bought the car with a blown head gasket and i went to fix it it all went well till a few of the tapplets (penny sized Metal things that sit on top of the valve springs fell into an oil passage) I tried to pull them out with a telescoping magnet but to no avail what do i do now? the oil passage is the first one on the driver side closes to the nose. thanks for any help
Did you hear them fall all the way to the oil pan? Can you see them stuck in the passage? Try draining the oil and sticking your magnet up through the drain hole scrape around the bottom see what you find. Other than that you got bad news. Start disassembling the engine starting with the head and see if you can see them below the head passage or you may have to take the engine out and turn it upside down and remove the oil pan and find them that way. I wouldn't crank the engine until you get them out. not even by hand with a breaker bar.
A good investment would be a flexible magnet. I've retrieved valve cover bolts that fell through a head on a V8 once with one.
Good luck
Okay thanks well they didnt fall all the way through and the head was off anyways so I can get to the block but no such luck I really didn't want to have to pull the engine that means a whole new rebuild and the magnet goes down ut gets stuck and I can't see how far down it goes thanks for the response
