No cam sensor, but the PCM still expects a signal. Here is an explanation:

Are you sure you have the right ICM? It should have part number 12580215 on it. If that is correct, I would suspect you have a coil problem, but I am not very familiar with the Ecotec or this method of providing a cam signal to the PCM. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm sure there is someone much more knowledgeable on this engine than I am.

Try replacing the crank pos sensor. Its in the loop and prob original.

Just my 2 cents.

well the man at the junk yard said he ripped it from a cobalt but it looks the same as our ICM will check the number on it today or try to build a good one from the one i have and the new one. will also see into changing the crank position sensor. Anyone know where it is located on the engine? Also anyone know if a cobalt ICM work on our ecos?

That part number I gave you for the ICM is also used on some Cobalts, so yes they are interchangeable if you get the right year. The 2005 Cobalt ICM is the same as your car. There are probably other years too, but I'm not positive on that.

Not sure, but reading the pics I posted I would start suspecting a problem with one of the coil packs since that is the other reading the PCM uses to create the cam signal.
