How do I replace Crankshaft Position Sensor

How do I replace the crankshaft position sensor in a '96 Sunfire GT? I know the sensor is just above the oil filter, but I can't seem to get any kind of wrench or socket in there to get it out. It's a very tight space. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

Got a picture of where of the bolt, you may have to use a 1/4 socket and a swivel or an extention or a combonation of then.

I dont remember doing one on that car, but they all have a way to get them out

I wouldn't be able to get a camera there to get a picture. I can't remember the bolt size, but it's something small like 5/32". I can get a socket on it, but not enough room behind the socket to attach a wrench to it and there's not enough room to turn a wrench that size in the space. Maybe a crow's foot? Someone must know an easy way to get this out.

i think its like a 8 or 10mm...i have only removed it with the intake manifold off so im not sure how to do it otherwise...have u tried removing your oil filter???

You might have a little more room that way...

Just put a new one on or reuse the old one just make sure you add oil when your finished..

I did remove the oil filter when I tried replacing it before, but there's still hardly enough room to get my hand up in there. And I can't really get my eyes on the sensor. I can detach the wires to it, but that's it. Any other suggestions?

Yep.. intake manifold off, is pretty much the only way to get in there "easily"...

If it's a 2.2 liter, with the air intake off and fuel rail cover off, you can get one arm down on one side of the motor and the other arm on the other side. There is a little opening through the manifold that you can look through to see the sensor. You can get it better with a 10 mm wrench. Make sure that you twist the sensor around to loosen it first before you pull it out. Also a good penatrating oil...good luck.

Came up from the bottom on my '99 2200. Replaced it when I bought the car and did the first oil change for no other reason than when it goes bad you're pretty much stuck. With a 5 speed car it should be easy to get to from the bottom, automatic would be a little tighter though.
