Hi everyone,
I have a 2004 Cavalier. It has the 2.2 ecotec with and automatic. The oil has been changed every 3 to 5 thousand miles. It has just over 80,000 miles on it. Drove it into the garage, engine running fine. Went to start it and nothing. Did a compression test and it only had 100, 100, 75, and 100. Thought maybe the timing chain had somehow slipped or something. The engine is now at the machine shop for a head job and cylinder boring. The rings were shot. Air filter changed every 20,000 miles. The machinist seem to think it was "over fueling" and washing the oil off the rings. It has always ran and idled nice. Anyone ever heard of anything like this? Perry
not at all!!! i work in a shop and never herd of over fueling, expesaly on a fuel injected engine. did it ever over heat?
Have you owned the car since it was new? Do you know the history? Sounds like it overheated to me or was ran low on oil once too many times. Use a natural oil to break in the rings but after that switch to a good synthetic. They have way better heat dissapation qualities. I use Moble1 personally but others are good as well.
What the machine shop said can happen. If you had an injector stuck open it would flood out the cylinder and "wash the cylinder out" meaning causing the rings to lose seat.
Jaguars are notorious for it.
