ive got a 2002 cavi and am now having to replace the fuel pump for the 3rd time. the last time i had to replace it was last november, 2 months ago. any reason what would make the fuel pump burn up in 2 months
Hows the fuel filter has it been replaced?.
it was replaced both times ive replaced the pump, im throwing an o2 code so i wonder if that could have something to do with possibly making the pump work overtime and make it burn out quicker
Could it be a wiring fault or something guys? Maybe something making the pump run all the time or too hard?
There are quite a few GM cars that apparently had problems with the wiring connector to the fuel pump. When you buy a replacement GM pump for these cars, it comes with a new plug you need to solder in to the harness. The new plug will not interchange with the old one. They are a different shape. I'm not sure if this is one of the models or not. Also, do you run your tank low on fuel a lot? If so, that could be causing heat issues. Make sure the tank is clean inside. Also, check for a kinked fuel line or return line.
none of the fuel pumps ive gotten have ever come with a new connector so i dont think thats the problem but at 200/pump im tired of having to keep buying one, granted this ones under warranty but i dont have the receipt
and ive only been lettin it down to 1/4 tank or so
very weird... most causes for pump failure in my experience is a clogged fuel filter, or running the tank below 1/4 frequently (as the pump relies on fuel to keep it cool).. maybe your gas tank is full of crud and its constantly blocking your new filter? did you take a look in the tank when you last replaced the pump?
bad wiring also maybe... im trying to connect the pump burning out and the o2 fault but feeling braindead at the moment..
so turns out the fuel pump wasnt shot... it was a kinked line. got it all fixed. thanks for the input.
where did you get your fuel pumps from? write up on replacing the pump/sending unit?

Disconnect filter.
Disconnect harness from under the car for fuel pump.
Drop tank
Use quick disconnect tools for the lines
Use snap ring pliers to remove ring from sender.
???????
have rich fix it for you while you're at work.
Profit.
Nah, once it's dropped and out, you'll see how it comes apart.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
Are any of your lines that sit on top of the tank being crimped or smashed? That could be a reason.
