Would a worn cv shaft make any kind of noise at highway speeds?
Its not clicking in turns, but i do get a nice POP noise when leaving my drive way in the morning.
A couple weeks ago i lowered my car,and rotated the tires twice, had the alignment done twice(first time didn't get it right)
and just had the tires balanced yesterday.
Now i have a constant noise in the front end, sounds like it coming from the drivers side, but it only makes the noise while accelerating or down shifting at highway speeds.
I've replaced both wheel bearings, rack and pinion is new along with the outer tie rods, ball joints are a year old and in good shape,i replaced the pass side cv shaft last year so i know its good.
The only thing that i haven't replaced is the driver side cv shaft, but before i do,just wanting to know if cv shafts make a slight gnarling hum type noise, its real hard to explain,i never heard a noise like it before, hence why I'm asking the forum.
I put some ca poly bushings in at the same time i lowered my car,and i get a vibration at about 3k but not sure if that's part of the stiff bushings or part of the noise problem.
Anybody have an idea on what might be the problem let me know thanks.
Not an expert on CV joints, but I'd say that your diagnosis sounds likely. Go ahead and get them replaced.
Might as well i already replaced everything else already.
Did u get youre strut mounts replace while getting the are lowered?. Could be the CV shafts. This didnt do the pop sound before it was lowered?. If the CV shafts are stock could be a good thing to replace them.
Good Luck.
Yeah pop was there before i lowered it,course lately it hasn't poped while leaving the drive way.
But i still have a vibration and noise at highway speeds,so when i get the money I'll go swap out axles.
Thats sounds like a good plan. GoodLuck.
Alright got a new CV shaft tonight, and installed it,glad to say the noise is now gone, now i need another alignment.
