Yea well the car was acting a little goofy today so i jacked it up found a nice crack in the crossmember?, (the part the control arm goes into) I hope thats what it is callled . Just wanted to ask if and 3rd gens have the same and if i should just buy a used one or something. Pls let me know and Ill try to get pics in the morning
None of the under-body components should have changed, but damn!!! I can't believe that crack...I'd say you got pretty lucky in finding it when you did. I would still recommend getting one from your model year, though--negates some of the uncertainties. Any salvage yard should have it.
I'm having trouble envisioning that piece right now, but isn't it part of the cradle that the motor sits on? Unless I'm forgetting something, it'd be a relatively time-consuming repair to replace that.
wow yea, good thing to found that, pretty badass crack.
all years are the same sub frame, just looks for ones with the least rust and best condition at the junkyard.
there's 4 big bolts(that can sometimes be a bitch) holding the sub frame to the car, your going to need to take the 2 bolts outta the steering rack and tie the steering rack up in the car, than get the 2 balls joints separated from the steering knuckles as-well as the tie-rod ends. remove the lower dog bone from the motor and you should be good to drop.

There is also 2 big bolts up inside the supports that are behind the axles.
And the drivers side also has the radiator support bracket bar thing(name?).
I found it easier to take out the 3 bolts that hold the ball joints to the control then separate them from the steering knuckle.
I've had to drop and raise it up several times putting the tranny in the Z.

03-05 has an extra reinforcement across the backside.
regardless of what year/ model/ engine jbody its from, they will bolt in with no problem.
I have one sitting in my garage I need to get rid of.
Good shape, Slight surface rust. I'm in MI.
Personally, I would weld it first. If it comes back, then I would replace it

thank you that is some handy info right there!

Its cracked on the bottom and the top and is rusted really bad. otherwise thats what i would have done
but any way how much do you want for yours and what year is it from?
95,
Just let me know what it's worth to ya. Still has the control arms, knuckles, sway bar, steering rack, and other misc. @!#$ left on it. Good shape, no bends.
Got anything you would trade?

Idk exactly, I can get one for 150 through my GFs Dad (he is a mechanic at a ford stealer ship).
but price really isnt the problem grand rapids is 2 and half hours away from me and with out my main transportation it would be really hard for me to get out there.
Ill let you know but i think im going to try to find something nearby preferably one from an 03+ if possible now (thanks PJ
)
Why not trying to weld it? just as good as a used sub frame, with a lot less work.

Like I said there is 2 cracks one on the bottom (the one in the pictures) and one on top. because of this it has been flexing and moving to the point where when i was driving i felt the steering wheel move out of alignment and then when i hit the brakes it popped back into alignment (this how i found out about the crack). I have had 2 mechanics look at it and they both think i should get a new one.

I think you mean this (16)... It was not just on "03-05." This was found on 95-04. And on GMPD it was under Sunfire.
Your piece will run $300 new at GMPD.

Thanks well I still am having a hard time finding the proper part number, I sent them a confirmation e-mail and I got a picture with a couple numbers highlighted that couldn't even see.
so yea thats were i'm at
i guess if i cant get one from GMPD then ill just snatch up the one from the junk yard
Well I got another e-mail from GMPD and well apparently i got the part # right it just includes that bolt labeled as 42 as well
what I find funny is the 95-02 on is $250 and the 03-05 is $180
so I can I get a confirmation that the 03-05 will work?
I checked around and what not and there is no reason it shouldnt im just paranoid

ok my dad help me find out more, this is the email I got. I going to see if I can get a diagram:
Yes, what you have been told is correct ... there is a reinforcement (looks similar to a skid plate) on the front of the part that is fairly beefy ... 2.1 mm thick stamped part.
It weighs about a pound and has some significant structural form to the part. It spans almost the entire distance from LH rail to RH rail.
From looking at the drawing all of the mounting holes appear to be the same, but for some reason the service engineer has deemed that the 22732551is only for 2003 - 2005 model years.
I don't see anything that would not fit, but the Service Technician should know whether the 2 are compatible.
From a cursory look it appears that the 22722551 part would fit OK, but I would feel bad if you bought it and it did not fit.
Hope that helps.

You have a 2.4L so the 03-05 front K member should work. If you had the 2.2L then it would not. All the mounting locations would be the same with the exception of the two locations for the exhaust hangers on the 2.2L.
I also found out there has been 6 revisions to the engine cradle since 95, most being extra reinforcement in areas were cracks appear.
One of these revisions is were my cracked formed.... lol
wow thats bad...
but that new one is sexy
