In the process of doing a headgasket on a 97 Z24. Im trying to bolt the exhaust manifold back on, and it seems stuck on something in the transmission area. I see there is a bracket type thing down there, but thats not the entire problem. i should be able to freely pull the manifold upwards probably 2-3". i only need it up like 1/4". jacking the muffler raises the engine, jacking under the oil pan raises the exhaust. its like it is hooked, but i cant see where. Any tips?

After lining up the timing chain, it says to spin the crank 720. each time i tried to do that, timing would jump one tooth (it would do it at the exhaust cam, not that it really matter). I'm thinking the lack of tension (tensioner has no oil, since i had to remove it), is causing this. any exp. here?
