Just questioning my wiring here I have
4 wires out of the relay -
1purple wire goes to purple wire in the harness
1black wire goes to battery ground
1 red wire to large post
1 red wire to small post
Battery Power and Altenator fusible link are to large post.
I get no crank, no click nothing....im questioning the wiring here and the starter itself. I have switched around the two red leads from the relay with no difference.
I have read the black wire should go to chassis ground but is it ok to have it right to the neg battery terminal?
I also have read that the purple wire or a red wire is the "crank signal" to the starter but my purple connects to another purple and goes back into the harness.
The loops had broken off of both of the red wires so I guess im not 100% that those are hooked up right.
If I wack the starter real good it will click just one time but no cranking action at all. any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated...thanks in advnace!
thanks Rich, I ended up just swapping the starter and the whole relay set up out of a car at the local Pull A Part, Im sure on my wiring and my starter at this point.
Now she cranks good and strong but Im still not getting it to catch, I can spray it with some carb cleaner and itll fire for a second but will not stay running.
Something that I have noticed right after the fact is that the altenator now makes a very low buzzing or humming noise even with out the key in the ignition, Not sure what thats from so I disconnected the plug on top of the altenator for now while I cant drive it - any thoughts on that or is it normal??
I did plugs, wires, fuel & air filters last year but the car hasnt had 1000 miles on it since then - what gives??
What sensor would cause the car to not get fuel? I know the crank sensor controls spark which i have as it will start with carb cleaner or starting fluid for a second.
I dont have a scanner and i cant get the car running long enuff to take it up to advance or autozone.
I have read some other posts regarding the alternator noises and i sure hope my 2 yr old alternator is not shot already. Im going to go out there and fool around for a while now. I have a spare TPS and IAT sensor but i dont know if that will make a difference or not. Im stumped here guys
it actually would just crank and crank but it wouldnt start at all unless i gave it a spray...
just wanted to update here, i did get the car running - this being a Wisconsin car i decided to check and clean all my ground points, i also moved the ground from the famous corroded battery tray to a spot on the radiator support and i cleaned up the power contacts to the fuse box under the hood.
still have a Check Engine light and Air Bag light so ill be going to get the code(s) pulled in the next day or so and I will be posting back here with the results
