So here is the deal, I replaced the 2.4 out of my girlfriend's cavy with a 2.4 out of a sunfire. I was in a hurry and didn't take the time to label any of the wires before I removed the old motor... Now when I got the new one in and everything hooked up I turned the key and gas went everywhere... The injectors stuck wide open and gas flooded the cylinders and intake manifold. I havn't messed with it since and it's been a couple weeks. A couple of people have told me that it simply could be a wire that needs to be hot could be grounding out...Or it could be more serious... I have the Haynes manual and it doesn't show me what I need... Anyone have any pics or diagrams that you think would help? Or anyone have any ideas what could be going wrong?
On another note... the sunroof will not open... I'm not sure if its off the track or needs some lube... If you push it up and hold the vent button it will hold and stay vented but will not slide open. So I don't think it's the motor. I don't know much about them like I said it's my girlfriends car. If it's off the tracks whats the best way to go about putting it back on? Thanks so much in advance... She's desperate to get it back on the road.
There isnt really much to label, most of the plugs are different from one another and will only plug into 1 spot. Just about all wires terminated with a ring will go to ground except the positive battery terminal.
What year is the car and what year sunny did the motor come from? shouldnt make a difference aside from the difference in the injectors but the wiring isnt interchangeable.
Do you have all the vacuum lines hooked to the throttle body correctly?
Maybe the fpr is bad and shooting fuel into the throttle body directly causing it to flood out.
"Oil Leak ? What oil Leak ? Oh, Thats Just The Sweat From All The HorsePower!!"
all the plug in are correct just the wires that went to the block and up to the starter on the front right next to the tranny those are the only wires that i have messed up. the cavys a 99 when we got it had an 02 non egr in it this 2.4 i got from the sunfire was a 97 with egr i just did away witht the egr on it.
oh forgot to mention i changed out the injectors in this 97 motor and put the all the 02's in like the whole fuel rail. when i did i replace all the o rings...anyways i replaced the exhaust and intake manifolds with the 02's as well.
yikes... i just happen to see from the other thread that its a 99.. they changed the injectors that year, low to high impedance?.. Im guessing from the wiring mess you did not swap ECU's as well... could that be it?
Just a shot in the dark...
anybody know wtf is up ?? i messed with it the other day and it seems as soon as you hook the battery up the fuel pump stays running and it fills the intake and motor full of gas
My car did the same thing, but it happened while I was actually driving... Basically blew up my car. Real fun.
Ended up being a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator on the end of the rail... It was shooting gas out the vacuum line & just filling up the intake manifold. .
Take off the vac line & turn the car on. I can almost bet gas will squirt straight up!
Also, check those injectors. Some are low, some are high impedence. They are not combatible without some wiring.
well i put my old injectors on so none of the wiring is different to this motor i mean i put like everything from my old motor on to this one becuz i knew it all worked.. most of the connectors were different on this new motor thats why i put everything off my old on to it... n e ways it still doesnt solve the prob. as soon as i hook the battery up with the key off the fuel pump runs constantly.
