So here is the situation. I bought my car (99 2dr base cayenne red 5spd) after wreck. Never had the a/c condenser (radiator looking thingy) and I have never had a/c or cared to either. I prefer windows and fresh air. The car still has the a/c compressor but I fear it will soon seize. (40k without freon charge) I don't want to just throw a smaller belt on. I saw that some of you have done this, but I believe the belts grooved side runs on the flat pulley at some point. I am not interested in hp gains, but not willing to redo a/c system just to avoid belt differences.
What I am ultimately getting at are these QUESTIONS:
1. IS THERE A DELETE (DUMMY) PULLEY FOR THE LN2?
2. ARE THERE DIFFERENT PULLEY/BELT OPTIONS WHICH WILL SOLVE THIS SAFELY AND INTELLIGENTLY?
3. AM I AN IDIOT AND CONFUSED FROM 2.4/2.2 PICTURE MIX UPS HAVING TO DO WITH BELT ROUTINGS?
Please be gentle, this is my first OP topic!
By the way, my car has been off the road for one whole year due to bills. This week it is back! And before it left the road I hit up a closing circuit city for new amp. MTX Terminator. cant wait to blare the tunes in the warm spring air.

If there is an ambitious member, this would be a great DIY sticky attempt with end all, be all parts numbers, 2.2 vs 2.4 vs ECO.
You can unplug the compressor and leave the belt attached. As long as the clutch does not engage it should spin freely. There is a bearing that can wear out I suppose but never had that happen to anyone I know.
Some cars came without AC so running the shorter belt after removing the compressor isn't a hack job or anything if you're worried about that. Mine has been removed and running the shorter belt as well.
ohvrolla- does your belt routing run correctly? Does the grooved side stay on grooved pulleys, smooth side on smooth pulley's? If so then im an idiot and ASSuming problems would occur.

you're talking about an issue that happes with the 2.3/2.4 engines. the 2.2 is fine to run the shorter belt. if you'd looked at it you'd have seen this.

^ ^ ^ Yup, no issues with the LN2 running the shorter belt. I removed the compressor and I removed the bracket as well with the use of a couple spacers. I'd have to look under there again, but I think the AC bracket was sandwiched between the block and something else with a couple bolts, hence the spacers.
Just go to a local autoparts store and get the belt for the Cavy without AC. Belts routed the same, just cuts the AC pulley out of there. Just drop all that @!#$ out of there. Frees up some space and weight
I run a shorter belt on mine.
Works perfect going on 2 years now.
So its solved. LN2 is good to go for shorter belt! As far as asking for the shorter belt, when I worked at Autozone for a bit, i looked it up and it gave same size belt A/C or not. But will search some more. Thanks guys for all of your help.

I had the same problem. No one could come up with the shorter one for some reason, but when asked over the phone before I came in, they had it.
I ran string around my pulleys to find the right size
Most auto parts clerks around me are dumbasses. I can post up my part # in a little once I find the package.
i ran into this problem a while back, front seal on my ac compressor was shot when i got it, just dealt with no ac but then about 2 months ago the pulley on the pump started to fail, i went around to all the parts stores and faught with the clerks about getting the belt for non-ac telling me no it wont work unless i get the delete pulley, which is around 40 bucks...i KNEW the engine had a non-ac option though. so after doing the string technique i found the belt size i needed, went to the local autozone and had them pull up the belt for the 2.2 that is 70.5 centimeters as oppose to the 83.5?? centimeter belt. sure enough, worked like a charm. so any auto part clerk tell you that the delete pulley is the only way tell them to SOD OFF...lol....
Haha, that's why you don't tell the sh!t when you go get the belt. If they even have a whiff of the car having the A/C deleted they will swear you need the bypass pulley.
