2.2 Hard start, horrible sputter when idle/accelerating...

so my car has had bad leaks from the injectors for quite a while now... i bought new o-rings for them a month or so ago, and ran the car as usual... still leaked around the injectors on the rail... i decided to go to a junkyard to pull some injectors off a recently wrecked car since im between jobs atm... found a 97 sunfire with no body damage and pulled the injectors and a FPR just for good measure. Got back home and pulled the injectors and replaced them while swapping the newer o-rings on... I also noticed that the electrical connector for the 2nd injector looked pretty bad... since i had a spare one that was cut off a car for one of the replacement injectors we spliced in the new one and cranked the car... it started after a very long crank and ran rough, like there was a misfire.... so we tried one of the older "good" injectors in the second cylinder... kept hard cranking and running horribly... then we got lots of white smoke and noticed that there was gas dripping out from under the header... and creating a small drip out of my exhaust... we determined that the engine was dumping fuel and from the constant crank and running managed to get it completely through the exhaust... so we went back to the yard and got a complete injector harness replacement... ran the car and it still needs a long hard crank, and sputters pretty bad... it also hesitates pretty bad at lower rpm's, but seems fine at higher ones... if i tap the gas it lurches, but if i take it on the road and run through the gears aggressively, it seems fine... my gas mileage atm seems to be around 6-7.5 mpg... the good news is that there are no leaks around the injectors anymore lol.... im thinking the next part to replace is the fuel filter? anyone else got any ideas?

oh another thing... before replacing the electrical harness for the injectors i was running rough with the spliced one on... i threw a cyl 2 misfire...
upon getting the new harness i didnt throw the misfire code anymore, but i threw a "system too rich" code...
since that code has been cleared i havent had any more check engine lights but im still running horribly...

fuel filter? or bigger problem?

just in case
96 2.2l approx 14000 miles

Pull the vaccum hose off the FPR, see if fuel is coming out. I had this happen to my 97 Sunfire 2.2. FPR was bad. New FPR and all is good.

yeah like i said i got a different FPR and no more problems with the injectors... the old one was causing them, but the car ran fine... then when we spliced in the wires and replaced the injectors and it ran horribly, with the different FPR it still starts/idles horribly, but no leaks... i do need to look at replacing the whole plastic piece with the vacuum lines on top of the throttle body just in case theres a leak i cant see... but im worried getting one from a junkyard will either be useless, or ill break it removing it...

anyone else? im trying to fix a suspect area in one of my vacuum lines... to see if it helps at all... but what about fuel filer.... anyone think that could be my problem...

well i "fixed" a possible hairline crack in one of my vacuum lines... went for a drive.... cyl 2 misfire again, and all through 2nd and 3rd gear with WOT i feel the car go hard, then let off, then go hard again, then let off etc.... that was all b4 the check engine light came on... i actually think my mpg is < 5 now....

well now im wondering if my #2 plug fouled out... i switched it with cyl 1, and am going to take it for a drive tomorrow to see if i throw a cyl 1 misfire... if i do then its new plugs and fuel filter for good measure...

still can anyone get me a part number for the black plastic piece that sits on top of the throttle body with the vacuum lines coming out of it?

so no one knows the name to parts on our cars?

What was it?

Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.

Sorry Will.. like i said i almost never check this forum... you probably would have had better luck in the Performance forum... i dunno yet if imma be in your fuel hell with the Cobalt SS Injectors im running in my 2.4 with the RK sport rail... i had to modifiy my plugs to use the 2.4 retaining clips... if i didnt use the clips the injectors would shoot down and start dumping fuel (and this is after dremling the crescents and drilling new holes lower)... i drained 3/4 of a tank in 1 mile when it did it last. but now one of my plugs doesn't want to stay attached to the injector, so im off to the bone yard to get new plugs that i can modify again for the SS Injectors...

So i ended up just replacing all the injectors, new o-rings, new FPR, and patched a leak in one of the vacuum lines... i still have a slight leak from the injector in cyl 4, but its much better than the problem i was facing before...
