Hi everyone. I just joined on here for the sole purpose of putting up this post. My dad just drug home a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire for me. Im 20 years old, but i think he feels bad for not helping out with my college at all. Anyway, he had the car towed home, because it is making a loud ticking noise. Upon further inspection, i found out that, not only is it making a loud ticking/clanging noise that is consistent with RPM, but also, the engine will not rev above 4000 rpm, even when floored. I listened to the engine with a mechanics stethescope- The sound seems to be coming from the number one cylinder. When i put the stethescope on the block, i cannot hear the sound, but if i put it on the head or valve cover, it hurts my damn ears. When throttling the engine, it sounds as if it is actually running ok, up untill 3000 rpm. It does not sound like a diesel or a lawnmower, like i have seen/ heard spun bearings described as. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? sorry for the long post.
