cooling fan issues

hello everyone new to this site and new to the chevy world but been working on cars on and off for about 10 years, well like two months ago i bought a 99 cavalier 5 speed with a 2.2l, so far the car has been great but develop a few small issues, one of the major one is the my cooling fan didnt want to turn on so, i decided to test it and it works, so i check the fuses and relay and those are fine, so i changed my t stat and the sensor that is on top of the hose where the coolant runs right next to the cylinder head, after i did that ran the car till warm and fan turn on, a few days after i was stuck in traffic and i notice it was getting to hot from the temp gauge so i pulled over open my hood and the fan was not turning on, so i turn the a/c so the fan can come on, when i got home i check with my volt gauge the 2 prot connector from the temp sensor on top of the hose and when i press down on the yellow wire it turn on, so i replace the two connections and it seem to fixed the problem but now sometimes when im driving it works and sometimes it doesn't, i heard there is another sensor but dont know where is at, or what could it be. thanks in advance.

First the fan is not set to come on until 223 degree's, so got to truly make sure the car is hot.

i have make sure the car is hot, i drove the car again for about an hour and it did it again, but as soon i get home i check those 2 prot wire connection and ether move them around or push down with my volt gauge it works.

It is not uncommon to have the wires go bad at the temp sensor. GM sells a pigtail for them.

Well I did changed the wires and it seem to work but then when I drive it and I'm in traffic the fan won't turn on and the temp gauge starts to move pass the middle and the fan won't turn on. So I really don't know what to do next

I don't think it is getting hot enough.

Well if 3/4 and sometimes almost to the red is not hot enought than I don't know how hot it needs to get. I just don't want to melt my valves or blow a head gasket

i have a similar issue.... fan doesn't seem to be coming on.

I was going to replace my coolant temp. sensor and see what happens (after checking my relay)

when replacing the temp. sensor will i have coolant leaking out of anywhere? do I need to worry about air getting into the system? or?

Mine does this, it is normal. I believe the thermostat for the electric fan is 210 degrees, the "normal" spot on the thermostate is I think 195.
