The sunroof on my '02 Sunfire will open to vent position and then a few more inches, but will not open completely. It closes fine and the motor sounds normal, but stops when the sunroof is only a few inches open. Anyone have any experience with this issue?
mine was acting all stupid and i sprayed some white grease(or some thing like that) on all the rails. works great now. the only thing is i have to push the button once to vent, and then give it a little push to actually open to the vent position.
hop that helps u out.
thanks. It was a hot day today and it opened fine, so I lubed it up good, but when the sun went down it stopped working....
The seal expands and contracts with the weather, but usually not that dramatically. Mine opens up in the winter time just fine. Is this a factory sunroof?
Yes. It must be an electrical issue, but I don't know how the temperature would factor into it....
yes the temp is a factor... i have a 99z24 manual power sunroof stock..... and my junk be trippin to it only opens in the sun...or in the heat. at night when im riding and want to be all the way live and open my sunroof it fails! so we all on the same boat. i dont know what it is obviously it works fine!, when it wants. i just think of it as my car having a personality... because it works but when it wants..lol i need help too but i'll smoke you up w my 2.4 weather my sunroof works or not or opens when it wants. ohh and im stock just an intake k&n and a b&m short throw assembly. i got 150/155 next is a clutch and computer and i'll relax
while passing you ]:->
Ain't Nothing To it But To Do IT!!!
mine is doing this too, its been getting worse too. it used to only open a little, then at times all the way, the other day it went only to vent and would not close all the way then. the next day it closed. I am wondering if this is the track/cable setup, or the motor, or even the swich.

remove the trim around sunroof, gently pull down the liner just a bit and you will see a plug/wires just to the right of center...i was told to tweak that up just a bit..theres some sensor there that gets outta line after awhile..heat seems to cause things to expand enuff to line the sensor back up ..why it works when its really hot out...i was unable to get it to go up enuff so i leave the trim off and have a ...well actually its the tool to remove the pushpin things that hold like the headliner and many other plastic parts on our cars, it has a slight bend to it that is ideal but anyways i just put the tool just under the plug in that you can see and just a lil pressure up is enuff to make it open or close..somewhere you should be able to see my post via *Search* a cpl months ago and someone helped me out

There is a green plastic cam that runs in front of two micro switches(position sensors), the rivets that hold the switched to the mount loosen over time. The fix will literally take 10 seconds and you do not have to fully remove your headliner.
All you have to do is pull the rubber surround away from the sunroof interior and pull down on the headliner(without creasing/bending) where the motor is mounted(center of sunroof). Grip the micro switch and it's mount and bend it upwards very slightly(may take decent force and may require a slight, ever so slight visual bend in the metal depending on how weak the rivets are.). This will remake the contact of the micro switches to the cam. Once the sunroof knows where the glass is again, it will resume normal operation.

^^ This work for you guys?...curious if any got it to work permanent like and how much pressure u needed to apply...i pushed pretty hard i thought but maybe ill give it another try..especially if i get ambitious enough to drop the headliner and paint it.
