p0171 code. Hesitate then stall
Tuesday, May 04, 2010 2:00 PM
I just went outside to start the cav up and go to work. Just got back from brunswick. it drove fine.

Now the car fires, but then suffers in extremely low RPMS and dies... Everytime.

Whats going on??

EDIT: i went to brunswick to get my exhaust looked at after it mysteriously twisted and began rubbing my bumper cutout. Could this have anything to do with it? The car wont even start, and had no excess exhaust noise.

p0171 is thrown because of a lean fuel condition. how many miles are on the car? Could be a clogged fuel filter, fuel pump on its way out, or some clogged injectors. is p0171 the only code being thrown?

Yep, that's the only one. Its an 03 with 85k miles. Car has given me no trouble to date. How can I trouble shoot these? Cars in my garage so id much rather repair it myself. What would you do first?

with 85k, the fuel filter could be changed. its like 11 bucks.

start with the fuel filter.. if that doesn't solve the problem check you are getting the the correct fuel pressure. if its low then you have a fuel pump going bad. if all that checks out the next thing would be to swap your injectors out. It really shouldn't be your O2 sensor because other codes would be thrown if there was a problem with it.

Just got to work on my fuel filter. I have the green clip assembly undone. Whats the best way to unbolt the other side? twist the filter? or a bolt?

Thanks for all the help

mine was welded on with rust, sprayed some liquid wrench on it and with much force, it just came off

My nut buster isn't helping me out. The process isn't hard. Its the damn fuel line termination into my filter. Damned thing looks original..
