Hi, i just got a 2000 sunfire with the 2.2 and 3 speed. it idles great and runs great, except when i really get into it, it messes up pretty bad. If i make a wide open blast on a straight, it just misses a little, but if im wide open up a hill, its bad. it pulls great up till 5000 rpm, then it just kind of flatlines, stutters, and throws a p0300 code. ive never wound it out enough to see if it does it in second gear, but it does it every time i approach the 1-2 shift. I know that the code is for multiple misfire. Is there any way to tell what/how many cylinders are misfiring. The plugs where just changed, and they were very bad. I suspect that the wires are bad also. Is this just wires, or are my coils bad?
What kind of plugs did you use? If you put "Botch" plugs in I'd say those are probably the issue. Could be the wires, but could also be plugged fuel injectors. Try running a tank of either Chevron Techron or Amsoil pi through it.
Yeah, we put bosche platinum plugs in. What plugs should i put in it?
An easy way to see if your plug wires are leaking is to get the car in a completely dark area, shut off all lights and watch the wires with the car running.
It will look like a miniature version of blue lightening, sometimes jumping across, down the wires or near to boot for the plug.
I have had no luck with with those Bosch plugs and never heard anyone say any good about them, go to your local GM parts with the v.i.n and buy the o.e.m plugs, they are worth buying. NGK Iridium plugs are decent too. If you can order Accell wires for your 2.2 they would work good.

As far as plugs, NGK V-Power, G-power, and Denso Platinum TT are all good and will work very well. The G-Power are popular platinums. I used the V-powers, and now I'm on the Denso plugs.. They all work excellently, and they are MUCH cheaper than OE plugs. The V-Powers are $1.99 each, the G-powers $2.49, the Denso Platinum TT are $2.99 and the ACDelco OE are $6.49 at advance. But yeah, I will almost GARUNTEE that that the Bosch plugs are the problem. Your wires should be fine, but if you want to replace them, go with ACDelco, or some NAPA ones (made by Belden)
this doesnt look very good. I replaced the plugs with the AC delco plugs, and changed out the wires for good measure- autolite premium 7mm. Took the car out to test, and on the first run, before it was up to full operating temp it ran perfect, but on the second run, when it was warm, it did the same exact thing. Also, when i pulled out the plugs, i noticed that #1 was quite wet-didnt smell it but it looked like oil. Could worn rings and or valve seal on that cylinder be my problem, but if so why is it giving me p0300 instead of p0301
p.s. If this was my old 93 cavi i wouldnt give a rats ass, but this car is almost perfect cosmetically, and as such i would like it to run perfectly also.
If the spark plug is wet I'd hazard a guess that the fuel injector or something is messed up and it's putting out too much or too often.

the reach on the denso tt's are about 1/4" less than that of the factory delcos. mine fouled quickly, and i will never purchase them again.

Do you have the plugs gapped properly? If there is too large a gap you might just be getting bad spark blow out. Also fits that it happens while under load.
