i recently got my water pump replaced, and i was told the upper rad hose had a leak. So i go and get and replace the hose and all seemed to go well, except for the clamps those are fun. How far do you need to clamp the hose? So i take the car to canton to the pull a part to buy a couple things for it, which is a 70 mile round trip and i noticed the temp was above the 195 mark at one point it was at 3/4 the way to over heating and it would cool back down, im assuming the air from the highway helped with cooling. So i get home and the car is steaming and i open the hood and it was leaking around the area where the themorstat is located. It was leaking where the new hose went. So next day i took the car over to my mothers and bring back home and the rad hose popped off at the rad. Almost like there was a lot of pressure coming from it. So I changed the clamp to the hose close to the rad because its alot of fun to get to because of the A/C line right there. So what would cause all of this? Oh yea the car is a 96 cavalier with the 2.4 with 172,000 miles.
What kind of clamp are you using, the spring clamps or the screw down type, are you using new ones

Poor Installation of the hose, there is NO reason for a properly installed hose to pop off.

Yeah, it sounds like you never had your clamp on properly ,I bet they are the spring type clamp. I suggest using the stainless steel band clamp screw type( don't over tighten )
