front ends has hard clunk

Alright back again still chasing this noise. I have a hard clunk on acceleration. Sometimes when turning. When brake is pressed and increasing engine rpm's. Sounds metal to metal and can feel in passenger side floor. I would normaly suspect a motor mount. Motor mounts are good as i have lower performance one n upper mount insert.

98 Cav Z24 Auto

replaced parts: both cv axles, both outer tie rods, inner tie rod on right side, replaced struts, springs, strut mounts = no luck and this fix is getting priceless.

I went through everything again over the weekend. After pukking the ride side cv axle out. I noticed the round ring that locks it into the trans might be not be good. If i am not mistaken isnt there one on the splined part that locks into the trans? If there is one that stays on there i know thats good. Yet if that lock ring is in the side of the trans.I dont think it is holding it in under a load. Almost like it kicks it out. I fear this may have been my problem. Any way to fix this?

Any comments or suggetions appreciated. I know our cars are full of noises but this one is getting costly. I want to sell this car now. With the noise i feel i will be talked down to a rediculous amount.

I had the same thing you are describing on a 94 2.0 and it was the rear passengerside engine mount. Is your car is a 2.4?

Try rocking the car hard back and forth in park then listen for the sound, you should see if there is excess movement of the engine and trans by doing this also. Have a friend rock the car while you go around and look at the suspect areas.
The locking c clip is on the spline part of the axle not in the trans, when axle is installed in the trans there is still a small bit of play in and out, that's normal.
The only parts it sounds like you didn't replace or inspect are the ball joints, sway bar bushings and control arm bushings.
Since you are selling the car you could buy a $20 tube of windshield urethane and fill in all the engine mounts open areas to stiffen things up and get a better price, just an idea.
