Replacement wiring plug O-ring, grommet, seal, gasket, whatever?

What does a person normally do to obtain or create a replacement grommet, weatherseal, O-ring, etc. for one of these GM weathertight electrical connectors? The one I have that's missing the grommet is the one between the fuel pump harness and the body plug ("bulkhead connector", I've been calling it). The plug looks very much like this PT1176 (image courtesy of acdelcotechconnect.com), and the specific item I'm looking for is the rubber thing surrounding the plug (green in this image):

A Chevy parts guy I talked to today said I can only get the grommet as part of the entire harness, and that he doesn't know of an aftermarket replacement. He did ask if it was green (which I was of course unable to verify), so I suppose the actual seal I need may well be green, for whatever that means to anyone. Ideas I have so far for sealing the connector without the normal factory seal include lots and lots of dielectric grease and hope for the best, or try to fashion something out of a stack of hardware-store O rings. Or I suppose RTV might be another idea, but so far I've not had any luck with the trick of applying RTV to an oiled part and having it not stick.
