The rod was probably already weakened/bend/cracked and even though you took the right steps the damage was done and the rod gave away just from normal stresses of driving. Sometimes the hydrolock damage happens very quickly. I know one person who saw it coming and managed to shut off his motor before it took in too much water. If yours took in so much it stalled then at that point the damage was probably already done.

Probably fractured the rod when you hydrolocked it and then it let loose later on. Why would you even attempt to drive through deep enough water that could cause that to happen??

were you driving, if so if the motor was hot 195degrees or more you probably cracked the rod when the cold water flooded into the motor, good job cleaning it out though, my advice find a z24 motor/ecu

o yeah i'm surprised it took so long to completely go though....interesting.....well i drove a 98 2.2 for 6000 miles on a bad headgasket I suppose, and a 2.3 for 2000 with a bent rod and spunbearing idk sometimes these cavi motors hold up and sometimes they just die
