I just had my engine replaced again. The last time I did it myself in the garage but this time didn't have any time to do it so the salvage
yard dropped it in. When I did it last time there was some connection in the front of the car that I switched and the car was running stupid. I quickly figured it out
and fixed it. If I remember correctly it was a snap in plug or something, (maybe a sensor?) Now it appears as if they may have done the same thing as the car is
running really bad with the new engine. Any ideas on what two connections are similar in the front of the engine?
Symptoms: It runs close to 150 degrees instead of 185-190 like the last two engines. It bogs when accelerating almost as if it's a 2.2 instead of the 2.4.
and if I stomp on the gas it just kind of slowly gets going rather than jerk me back in the seat. I cannot even brake torque it and squeal the tires no more.My MPG went from 20 to 15.
It has a bad idle. Just today the second day I've had it I started it and it died. The after starting it back up it really was chugging and died again. Started it back up and I got it home
but it sounded like it was going to die any second constantly hesitating when I gave it gas.
As soon as I got it home from them I checked the plugs and they we're gapped at around .45 but I fixed that to .60. Then I ran a can of sea foam through it to clean it out some as the new engine had 68K on it.
Then I checked the cylinder compression and they were all around 140 instead of 200 like the last two engines I had. I know the compression has to be bad as low as it is but now the sputtering
and hesitation almost seems to be a sensor or ignition thing.
wow did they give you any kind of warranty?
i know around here all the salvage yards do.
cant help ya but good luck man.

I dropped the car back off with them and when I got back I noticed 3 pools on the garage floor. Trans. fluid, engine oil(seems like old considering they just should have put in new after the swap),
and some really thick liquid that looked like clean unused oil but was syrup like? I have a feeling they sold me a trashed engine and put really heavy gear oil in to plug up leaks or hide the fact it was leaking/failing.
I talked to a mechanic friend and he said they have the option to replace it with another engine of their choice if it is bad. Is that true? They can sell me a bad engine and under their "warranty" just pull the supposedly
low mileage one out and put in whatever? I don't get to choose what I want to be put back in after they remove their bad engine? I am not there yet but is that legal or am I screwed here?
Depends on what you signed. Word isn't binding

Coming Soon:HpTunersPro, EagleConnectingRods, WiescoPistons, 13sec2200
It says on the back of the receipt that all replaced parts will be done at the discretion of the salvage yard.
So is that the law? You can make up your own rules and somebody unwittingly signs it and it's legally binding?
Not to be snarky but If that is the case couldn't they just put on the back of the paper that after they have taken my
money, that at their discretion they can just choose not to install the engine because they have better stuff to do?
There must be some laws regarding this. I know that sitting in front of a judge or jury, things happen sometimes for
the good that defy logic like the decision being based on sympathy. I am just wondering if they try to scam me into
another engine that is higher mileage than I care for can, I refuse it and have them install an engine of my choice from another yard?
I am pretty sure they don't have another engine so they would have to get another one from another yard. Do I have
to sit and wait for an indefinite amount of time for that engine. Do I get to choose if I want that particular engine they do find?
I'm just trying to cover all my bases before I get in dirty with these dirt bags.
update?
My car was made with wrenches, Not chopsticks.
It took them from Wednesday morning til this Saturday afternoon to find what was wrong. That's why I had no updating. It took them ten business days to try and
figure out what was wrong and they still didn't fix it. Something tells me that seeing as how Ive paid in full that I'm not exactly a priority any more, if I ever was.
They called on this Friday and said they figured out the misfiring. Then they also said the mechanic said the power loss was from a bad fuel pump.....
So I more than likely blew my engine from a bad bearing( I don't know and probably will never find out) and all of a sudden I have a bad fuel pump?
They said they can replace it for $150 more. I said it wasn't that and they said if it isn't then I don't have to pay for it. So I said go ahead and was thinking
to myself what have I gotten into. They just called yesterday and said it was all fixed. So I go in and the sputtering /hesitation is still a little there.
The power loss is exactly like it was before they "fixed" it. Now they said that another mechanic is going to look at it on Monday.
It's almost as if the think I'm some young and dumb little girl that doesn't know anything about my car or cars in general. No offense to girls/women but
this is how I see they're often treated and I can't believe that they are trying this with me. I've had the car since I drove it new off the lot eleven years ago and
I know exactly how it is supposed to run. When I walk in to pick it up Saturday the first thing the Salvage yard manager says is "You have a lot of aftermarket parts on it."
So you pull out a perfectly fine running engine(other than the ticking from the bad bearing) and now it doesn't run good with another one because I have an aftermarket
air intake? I forgot about that. When they first installed the engine one "problem" they said was I had the intake on so they put a factory one on to get it to run better.
So after Monday when I know they won't fix it I guess I have to demand another engine. I just don't know how this will work. Are they going to get to decide what goes in?
I also am thinking I should get all my info/dates down on paper on what's going on so when I have to take these weasels to court, I am ready. Seven days to change an engine.
Ten days to not fix it and the put in a bad one. Trying to pass off the car in bad running condition twice. I don't know how long I have to let this drag on for but two and a half weeks
and nothing from them seems like they are pushing their luck. I'm beginning to wonder if they are trying to drag out the 30 day warranty til the end so I would be stuck with the bad engine.
i really wish i could help you man...
this really has me pissed off. and its not my car and i don't even know you!
go to a lawyer for a free consultation and see what he or she has to say.
i have done it in the passed and i always got good advice to the point were i didn't need
the lawyers services
good luck man i really feel bad for ya.

I found a decent engine at another yard. Had their recommended shop put it in for the warranty. I returned the crap engine to the morons and they are refunding the money
for the engine but not the labor. Also I noticed that the A/C they had "fixed" was blowing hot air. So when I dispute the money with my credit card I will also deduct the $90 for
the line they put in and freon fill up along with the labor for the install for the engine. So they wasted over 3 weeks of my time and a tank of gas to go back and forth four times and I get
my money 100% back. So we're even, sort of. It turns out not only was the crap engine low compression but the idiots had installed it all wrong. Some vacuum lines and some other stuff.
They also managed to scratch a 3X1/4" line of paint off my bumper and break the drivers side mirror. The spring for the "breakaway" mechanism doesn't spring back because I
guess they over extended it by bumping into it. So with all the evidence I have on the bad engine and install I will get my money refunded from my bank back to the debit card but they
still can take me to court to get the install money back. The mechanics that put the latest engine in said the idiots won't bother to go to court for such a small amount especially the
way it all went down.
Moral of the story: If you can do it yourself but have no time, make the time. Also stay far away from Magic Used Auto Parts Inc in Clearwater, FL. If you are wanting to find out
what the poorest possible customer service sounds like and a ready for a laugh, give them a call and see how they answer the phone.
I do want to recommend Pete's Automotive and customs in Tampa who put the engine in. They had the engine installed in two and a half days. Their customer service was
excellent. I have never dealt with such a professional business.
glad to hear your back running again and it all finally worked out for you.
wish ya the best of luck with the refund process man.
what a friggin headache!

Need a hug?
I know, right.
It's still not actually over. Ready for the stupidest thing you can do with a 2.4? Don't put in a new water pump while installing a new engine.
I told the guys at Pete's not to do it as I figured I would do it later if I needed to. Guess what......it is later. Everything was perfect other than
the pump was leaking. Now I am just wondering if I can do it without removing my AEM header. I can get to all the bolts but is it just it's not possible
to take it out from under the header once it's off? What if the pump and the housing it bolts to is separated then pulled out then put together in reverse fashion?
