So I have a stock 02 Cavalier. Nothing aftermarket on the motor or gauge cluster at all. It may be normal but I think my gas gauge is messed up.
When I fill the tank I will get about 100miles before I hit a quarter and sometimes 200 by the time I hit half. But the last 1/2 is always 100.
This gets me to around 250-300 miles to the tank(depending on how I drive)
Is this normal? I have a CEL for the EVAP system so I'm guessing why the mileage sucks so bad but s the gauge wrong?

yeah, Jbody fuel gauges are always inaccurate

I've figured out that the first half of the gauge is roughly 9 gallons, the second half is about 6.

Oh yes and if you have the 3 speed automatic, that mileage is about right. I only get about 24, 25mpg on a good tank (ie all highway)
Mine was doing the exact same thing, i just ignored it for about 8 months and now it's working accurately again, i've noticed a lot of problems with my car if i ignore it they fix themselves... or something goes horribly wrong, but that's only happened once.
Thanks for the answers guys. I just recently (Over the weekend) got my CEL taken care of. Turns out it was the EVAP Vent Solenoid by the fuel pump. The whole top half was broken off by the clips. I just glued it together with some epoxy. seems to be good, NO MORE CEL!!!!
Anyways the Fuel Gauge is still weird and I don't think my MPG changed much if at all. Oh well 300Miles to ever 12-13 gallons isn't so bad.
@Nick I have the 5spd Manual and I think it's with the Getrag F23 Tranny.
Well that was short lived. The CEL came back on this morning. Guess it's time for some smoke and a prayer. Anyone know of a reputable place in CT?
