Intake manifold has to come off.

First disconnect battery, then move aside the coolant reservoir tank and anything else that may give you more space to work and see what you are dooing.Take out the belt by relieving the pressure of the tensioner on it, carefull it is strong! The alternator has two upper bolts you have to take one out and just loosen the other( I believe this is the one closer to the timing chain cover) and one horizontal bolt that has to come out, now it is tight in there and you have to unplug the alternator connector and the thick wire that takes electrity to the battery side of car ( donīt remember if it goes to the fuse box or to the starter) now you can get the thing out, it takes some turning and jiggling, good luck and hope this helps. BTW I have never needed to remove the intake manifold! This Tom is kidding you.

Yeah, ditto wat Luis said - and i never had to remove the intake manifold either, but to each his own (watever works for u). The first time i changed my alternator i actually had to go under the car to get to some of the wires and/or bolts. But once i knew where everything was and how to get to it it was much easier from above.

That sounds about right for removal... If you didn't notice or whatever theres the link to the downloadable Haynes manual in PDF format that has 90% of the information you need to know for general continence of your car.. I have my own Haynes.. but I downloaded that one too just to have a digital copy.

disconnect battery, remove serp belt, remove the 3 bolts holding it in place, remove wires/plug from back, remove from car. its a pain in the balls to get the 2 bolts out on the belt side of things. the top bolt near the fuel rail comes out easy. it can definately be done without the intake mani being taken out.
