You know that catalytic converters heat up to about 1400 degrees right?
If your cat is running way hot, then your running rich. Fuel ignites the catalyst. That one of the reasons for open loop during cold starts. It's not uncommon for you to notice your cat running red hot on a cool, wet rainy night. I've noticed it once or twice before. Not on my cav, but on my truck.
Are you getting a code for catalytic effeminacy? Or are you just giving yourself an excuse to buy a high flow cat? I'm not bashing, just curious.

Yeah i know that,and i dont think its running rich. also i am getting a code for the lower o2 sensor, i was thinking just stight pipe it

What's the code for downstream o2?
If you can straight pipe it and pass inspection, or if you don't care then go for it.
There's another post here somewhere about high flow cats that are better than the magnaflow's. I don't remember who said they bought one like 3 years ago and haven't had a single problem with it, but they are cheaper. Here's the link to the cat with the o2 bung.

Stock exhaust is 2 inch ID (aprox 2 1/8 OD)from manifold to after the cat & 02 sensor, 2 inch OD from the flange (after cat & 02) to tail pipe. This is because in addition to the 3 bolt flange there is also a slip fit seal there.
