i have a 2000 z24, auto, and just recently my tranny has been acting up. The first gear slips pretty bad but only when you get on the throttle a bit. Other then that it shifts fine but only if you keep the rpm low. I also recently found the b and m shift improver and wondered if it would help my cav out a bit. I dont kno if my transmission is going out but i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it....?
When does it happen, hot or cold? All the time when u get onto it, or just sometimes. So far, it sounds like ur 1st-2nd gear clutch pack is worn out, and when putting a heavier load on it, it slips. Nothing unusual about it. The B and M shift improver im not real familar with, but I doubt it will help, rather then hurt it more. If its on the way out, then other then a rebuild, its gonna keep on going out. Goodluck!!
it happens hot and cold but only when i get on it, its only first gear tho that slips bad. If the tranny is on its way out ill just say screw it ha
Well, slipping of any sorts, means the tranny is on its way out. I would get it rebuilt, or find a used one from a reputable junk yard, and throw it in urself. Its pretty simple, as much as a trans can be i guess. Ive pulled the engine outta a Z before and it only took 2 hours. At this moment in time, I would say time to start looking into a replacement transmission, or getting urs rebuilt. Goodluck.
Check your autotrans fluid level, you may just be short of fluid.

That woulod be true, if, it were only happening cold, and clearing up when it was hot. Due to the fluid heating up and expanding. But since its a normal thing hot or cold, then the trans is on its way out. Good idea tho.
I would recommend changing youre transmission filter and fluid see if that corrects the issue.
Good Luck.
Damn looking like the trans is on its way out, o well thanks for all the help and i could possible have a good project on my way ha!

Not saying not to try this, but please explain how this could help? If the tranny has more then 75,000 miles on it, and he doesnt know if its ever been done or not, he could be heading for more trouble if he does a spill/fill with filter. As you guys, im sure, knows, when gunk builds up in a transmission over time, sometimes (and more often then not) that gunk is litereally holding the trans together. If he drains if and put a new filter on it, there probably a 60-70% chance he may not have ANY gears when he puts it back together. Not to mention if he doesnt know how to fill these particular transmissions (no dipstick, just the plug on the side and a little fill port). Over filling it is a normal occurence since ive seen many of these trans's overfilled by people who dont know where the plug is located nor how to tell when the trans is full. IMO doing a fluid change with filter is going to do 1 or 2 things : 1. its going to remove all that old gunk which is a good/bad thing. Cleans out the trans but if that gunk is holding ur trans together, removing that is going to litereally kill ur trans and now instead of having 1st gear slip, it will be all of them, or 2, Its not going to fix the problem and u just spent X amount of $ for pretty much nothing. If you wanna do it, go for it. Its pretty simple if you know what your doing. But I dont see it fixing the problem.
Ill agree with changing the fluid and filter, for several reasons.
1)If you do it yourself its cheap.
2) Its frequently ignored and probably needed.
3) It will allow you to see if there is any debris/shavings in the pan, a good sign of impending death.
4) You will know the level is right, cause you filled it yourself.
DO NOT take it somewhere and have it flushed, drop the pan and change the fluid and filter.

Ya i understand that it can be potentially good or bad thing. I just think my best bet is to leave it the way it is and wait till the end of my trans if there is one and just swap it out for a new one. Good advice tho!!! Thanx
try using valvoline maxlife atf and red lubegard. it fixed my trans shifting issue. I couldn't get out of first gear until I did a pan/drop filter change with this fluid and additive. it's been a year plus with success
