Hello from the new fellow.
2001 Sunfire, 2.2 L, 4 Speed Auto
So here it goes. At the start of July my wife was in town and the Traction Control light came on just after a stop and the RPMs would shoot up and the car barely went. The battery light and CEL also came on. She shut the car off and it started right back up. She drove home. I started it and drove it a few times, it was fine. I took it to the garage. They pulled multiple codes, however they believed one might have set off the others. I cannot get at the work order right now to tell you the codes. Fast forward to last week and my wife was going down the highway and she heard a clunk the Traction, Oil and battery light came on as well as the power steering being stiff. She shut the car off came home and I drove her to work. Since then I have drove it a lot to get it to do it, around 500 kms, ran unbelievably great. Today she was on highway headed to work, went around a corner, clunk and the traction light came back on, again RPMs shot up only, no power. She shut it off and it started right back up no issues ran great. Tonight, just got back into town and turned the corner and power steering went stiff and engine ws off. It started right back up. Insane. I am taking it back in to see what is going on. Any ideas?
Well at least its not just my wife now. The shop manager and I discussed things for a bit and one of the mechanics brought me home. While turning the corner up the street it stalled out, power steering hard to turn, traction light. He restarted it and it wanted to go up in RPMs and shift hard. As far as troubleshooting could not have asked for better. Please feel free to comment. I will certainly follow up.
Just talked to the shop manager. Appears to be a Throttle Position Sensor. They tested it and the voltage was all over the place and there was a code for it stored. Economical enough to replace. Keep you updated.
Hmm, yeah keep us posted, bc My girls car (96 Ls with the LD9) stalls randomly, and we thought it was a huge vacuum leak (which there was one) and I fixed it, and it did it again last night on me. So yeah, keep us posted.
So my wife drove it 30 kms to work and back today. She is incredibly happy so far. I rarely drive this car so I really do not monitor its performance. Must start doing that. She said it has never accelerated better, no bog downs (? news to me), smoother running and it has never shifted smoother. So hopefully that 60 dollar part was well worth it.
