This is the total miles i got of my last tank full of gas on my 2003 cavalier auto sedan. Its this normal for my car ? The best total miles i got before where 310 , the only performance mods the car has is a aem true cai .

See this is a huge problem amongst most of the people that drive these cars. You cant really get a base number for gas mileage because we all drive diffrently. Some drive all highway, some drive all city, some drive a mixture of both. 278 sounds like a good high number and IIRC we have a 14 gallon fuel tank, or more but im not 100% sure on that, but useing your numbers assuming you went from completly full to completly empty you got a average of about 19.9 miles to the gallon, which is not bad. Sound like ur on par. your 310 was probably more highway driving then stop and go. So I would not worry about it unless ur noticing going to a tank of gas every 3 days and only putting 100 miles on the ODO.

We would need to know how many gallons you put in the car. My 03 Sport gets anywhere from 24(insanely low for my car) to 31. Thirty one was mostly highway.

So your car died on the side of the road at that point? How do you know that was "the end of the tank full?"

Do the real deal and calculate your miles per gallon by filling the car up, driving it while logging miles, and then fill it up fully again and divide the miles by the number of gallons you put in....

Lets start that the EPA rates your car at 21cty/30hwy. Worst case scenario...your car is doing 19.7 MPGs... and that's running on fumes. If that was mostly city, w/AC on and accessories on (radio, lights), it is not to bad. Now, if it was HWY and accessories off, you may have a problem.
If you have your AEM tube covered and it is picking up cooler air, it may affect the MPGs as the computer is reading a lower air temp and it will inject more fuel, so keep that on the back of your head. For now, lift up your foot, see that your maintenance is kept up, check tire pressure, and remove unnecessary weight out.

Well also everything depends outside conditions like Hot, Humid, Dry , Cold, night driving, what kind of octane gas you fill, even the brand of gas, A/C, everything affects MPG..I started to calculate everything as of yesterday. I Filled up around 13 gallons at $2.51. I just put an Ebay intake a lets see how it goes. Try to be constant same pump, same brand. Fill up where you started like.. just after the check gauges comes on.. things like that.. No A/C or with A/C on...

Also I have 2.4L
with A/C i calculated in the past I get around 250 MPG
with NO A/C i calculated around 300 MPG not running at all the A/C thru the full tank. .. thats why convertible comes into place. fresh natural Air.

im gonna look for the receipt from the gas station from that last tank full of gas since i keep all gas receipts for my cars but if i did avg 19.9 like someone mention above i would shoot myself lmao thats just too low for mixed driving and i dont have a heavy foot with my cavy .

See I dont really guage myself on fuel mileage but how long a tank lasts me. I know I can fill up late thursday night (usually after midnight but it still thursday to me ) or early friday mourning whichever you prefur and it will last me about 2 weeks. Now I do 100% city driving, all stop and go, and im sorta heavy on the pedal. But I also have 2 12's in the trunk, and I have a convertible, so the car is slightly heavier IIRC then coupes and sedans and I have a 2.4 LD9 in my car with a automatic. I know after the two weeks if I dont beat on it every single day, and just go home and work, with the occasion of driving out to my girls house (Im on the Northwest side of Chicago, she lives in Melrose Park) I can get 2 weeks no problem, and still fill up before my light even comes on, usually with a line or two to spare before empty. So with your mixed driving 278 sounds decent. But thats just me.

fill it up, drive, fill up again, do math......(miles driven)divided by(how much gas put in to refil)
so say u on full, then drove 300 miles, went to gas station filled up and it was 10 gallon it too to fill.....300/10=30miles per gallon

2000 sunfire 2.2 3spd. Delivering pizza(never good for mileage)- 17.5-18.5mpg. 40/60 mix driving- 21-22mpg. near as i can figure, getting roughly 25-26 highway@70mph.

ok heres the last results , i went and purchase gas when my low gas light had just turn on. i paid 33.63 dollars for 13.09 gallons of 87 octane gas . i was able to squeeze 305 miles out of it and that was all city driving

You did city 23.3MPGs. If you refer back to my original post, you'll see you're doing just fine. Also your tank is 14.1 gallons, you got your fuel down to 13.09 gallons, not a good idea for your fuel system. Fuel carries sediments from the transportation, and you running low like that, the pump will pick up crap on the bottom and clog up your filter a lot sooner, then the pump will have to work harder to pass that fuel that you're demanding to get to the engine, then the pump will prematurely wear. Rule of thumb, careful running so low on fuel.
Lastly, you can find out your MPGs [Mileage / Gallons = XX.X]

my wife drives city miles, 6 miles a day, 5 days a week with the cavalier we have which has a 2200SFI LN2 auto, if I didn't drive it (which i love doing) I wouldn't have to fill it up for a month lol.
However I was losing MPG one time from a dirty/clogged cone air filter, MPG got better after installing a new one.

I consistently get 19-22 in town with my 2200 5-speed. Only mods are header and exhaust with a home made wai. This was even with new plugs, wires, and a fuel filter on stock steelies. I've come to terms with the fact that it'll never get any better. On the highway, however, I get somewhere around 32-35 pretty consistently.
